Rob Myles - Director of Bands

Rob Myles joined Discovery High School as the Director of Bands in 2022. Previously, he was the Associate Director of Bands at Duluth High School in Duluth, GA, and the Assistant Band Director at Chamblee Middle School in Chamblee, GA. During his time teaching middle and high school, the Chamblee and Duluth programs consistently received Superior ratings at district evaluations, while also participating in community performances and events. He also directed the pit ensemble for Duluth's 2019 production of Godspell, which earned him a Shuler Award nomination for Best Orchestra.

Mr. Myles holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from the University of Georgia, where he studied bassoon with Dr. Amy Pollard. While studying at UGA, Mr. Myles performed with many of the university's ensembles, including the UGA Wind Symphony, Symphony Orchestra, Opera Orchestra, and the Hodgson Wind Ensemble under several esteemed directors, including Dr. John Lynch, Dr. Jaclyn Hartenberger, and Dr. Cynthia Johnston Turner. He also marched with the University of Georgia Redcoat Marching Band and performed with the Derbies Pep Band.

In addition to his classroom teaching, Mr. Myles has also worked with several band programs in Georgia and South Carolina, assisting with music and visual marching technique. His professional affiliations include Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity, NAfME (National Association for Music Education), and GMEA (Georgia Music Educators Association).


Outside of teaching, Mr. Myles enjoys following his favorite (Atlanta-based) sports teams and spending time at home with his wife and two dogs.


Staff

Allan Marin - Assistant Marching Band Director

Allan Marin has worked with Discovery High School and the Titan Regiment since 2021. Prior to Discovery, Mr. Marin worked with Chamblee, Marion County, and North Oconee High Schools. Mr. Marin is a product of Gwinnett County Public Schools, having graduated Berkmar High School before attending both the University of Georgia and Kennesaw State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Political Science. While at UGA, Mr. Marin participated in the UGA Redcoat Band, eventually serving as Rank and Section Leader. During the school day, Mr. Marin works in the 9th Grade Academy teaching World Geography and AP Human Geography. 

Professionally, Mr. Marin is a member of the Georgia Council for the Social Studies and Kappa Kappa Psi, National Honorary Band Fraternity. 

Outside of school, Mr. Marin spends time with his wife and cat watching movies (especially anything Marvel) and cheering on UGA football and Atlanta United soccer.
